PolyKids

English Literacy & Phonics Program (6–8 years)

Building confident readers and writers in English

This two-year program is designed for children who have already developed strong spoken English skills.

It provides a smooth transition from oral fluency to confident reading and structured writing through a systematic phonics-based approach.

Rather than separating skills, the program develops decoding, reading fluency, spelling, and written expression as one continuous process.

How the program develops over two years

During the first stage, children:

  • Master sound-letter correspondence
  • Learn to blend sounds into words
  • Read short phonetic texts with understanding
  • Begin writing words and simple sentences

As their confidence grows, students naturally progress to:

  • Reading longer adapted texts and short stories
  • Improving reading fluency and comprehension
  • Writing connected sentences and short paragraphs
  • Applying spelling patterns and basic punctuation consistently

The second year builds directly on the first, strengthening fluency, comprehension, and written expression without disrupting the immersion environment.

What happens in class?

  • Systematic phonics instruction
  • Guided reading practice
  • Structured writing development
  • Vocabulary consolidation through literacy tasks
  • Creative projects (mini-books, short stories, presentations)

What children develop

  • Strong phonemic awareness and decoding skills
  • Reading fluency in adapted texts (approximately 150–300 words depending on level)
  • Ability to write clear sentences and short structured paragraphs
  • Understanding of spelling rules and punctuation basics
  • Consolidation and expansion of working vocabulary beyond previous levels

By the end of the program, students demonstrate confident functional literacy and are fully prepared for academic English study.

Class Format

  • Age: 6–8 years
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Group size: 6–8 children

Why this stage matters

Literacy transforms spoken language into academic competence.

Through structured phonics and guided writing, children gain independence in reading, clarity in written expression, and readiness for higher-level English learning.
